Public Relations Committee Description

The Public Relations Committee is dedicated to the enhancement of public awareness of the profession of medical assistants; their training and education, scope of practice and professional position.

This commitee also strives to create a greater understanding within the allied health occupations of the role of the CMA (AAMA) in today's health care arena.

Some strategies utilized to accomplish this committee's goals are the publications of activities and events, celebration of National Medical Assistant Recognition Week each October, and providing information to the public, educational institutions, and other allied health occupations about the profession of medical assisting.

Our Profession Defined

The medical assistant is "The only health-care professional trained and educated specifically for the ambulatory care setting". We are often called "America's Most Versatile Allied Health Professional"  We are considered Multiskilled Allied Health Professionals because we are employed in such a variety of roles within the outpatient setting:

  • Many CMAs (AAMA) work in administrative areas performing receptioning, bookkeeping, insurance coding and billing and in supervisory positions.
  • Many CMAs (AAMA) choose to work in clinical areas, perfoming direct patient care, assisting the physician with surgeries and procedures, preforming laboratory tests and specimen procurement, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedure on patients, and administering injections.

For more information about the training and education the CMA (AAMA) receives, please refer to the Education Page where you will find a listing of the CAAHEP Accredited Medical Assisting Programs in Washington State.
